Spa Romance

Spoil each other with a spa romance night with natural spa products.  Going out on a proper date can be an expensive endeavor. Babysitters, dinner, drinks … it all adds up. Money has been a bit tight in our house lately and the idea of dropping a big wad of cash to go out seems more stressful than enjoyable. I’m sure I’m not alone.

Still, it’s really important to make time to connect with your spouse or partner. Once in a while, my husband and I will rent a movie and make popcorn (check out this scrumptious popcorn) with some amazing fine wine, after my son goes to bed, and call it a date. It’s nice, but doesn’t feel all that special.

Then I had a brainstorm: Couples At-Home Spa Night. I’m not one to brag, but I think this may be the best inexpensive date night idea ever. The beauty of this idea is that you already have all the products you need in your kitchen and bathroom.  Even if you pick up a few items, the cost will be a fraction of what you’d spend on a night out.

You can also customize your date however you like by mixing and matching “spa” activities. No two at-home spa nights have to be the same. Treating yourself and your honey to an evening of pampering is more romantic than plopping down in front of a TV. It gives you the chance to talk and connect while doing something fun and positive. Taking care of yourself feels fantastic too, and you will both feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Sounds great, right?

Ok, so here’s the plan: you put the kid(s) to bed, open a bottle of wine, and then let the inexpensive, fun date night begin!

Step 1

Choose your spa space. Decide on the best area to set up your spa experience, based on the room you have in your house. A master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom would be ideal, especially if you have a deep whirlpool tub. However, you can also use your living room. If you have a lot of privacy from neighbors and an outdoor hot tub, perhaps you could create an outdoor spa experience right on your deck.

Step 2

Plan your spa services. Give your sweetie options for your at-home spa experience. If you plan on giving your partner a sensual massage, purchase scented body oils that you can warm up to make the experience even better. Go ahead—pour a tub and relax. Himalayan pink salts have been used for centuries to detoxify and soothe sore muscles. How could it get better than this?  Remember to purchase new plush spa robes for you and your partner to relax in during your spa night.

Step 3

Set the mood for your spa romance. Place candles all around your spa set-up to create a romantic mood. For safety, consider using flameless LED candles, which look very much like the real thing. You can use as many as you like without worrying about setting your house ablaze. Place plush blankets and throw pillows on the floor if you are going to be doing your massages on the floor. Sprinkle silk rose petals on your bed if you are setting up your spa experience in your bedroom. Make a playlist of romantic songs you know your partner loves to play in the background.

Step 4

Set up indulgent and romantic treats. Make chocolate-covered strawberries, which you can feed to your sweetie during your romantic spa night. Bring home gourmet dark chocolate truffles and serve them on a silver platter that will be exquisite with the fine wine that you have chilled.  You could also set up a chocolate fondue for two if you have a small fondue pot. Cut up fresh fruit and pound cake to dip into the melted chocolate.
